About Ansible
Ansible is an open-source automation platform for configuring systems, deploying applications, and coordinating complex IT workflows. It enables developers, system administrators, DevOps teams, and platform engineers to describe infrastructure and operational processes as reusable code, making routine tasks easier to repeat, audit, and scale. Using human-readable YAML playbooks, Ansible can automate server provisioning, application deployment, configuration management, software updates, security hardening, network administration, and multi-step orchestration. Its agentless architecture typically connects to managed Linux systems over SSH and Windows systems through WinRM, reducing the need to install and maintain additional agents on target machines. Ansible organizes automation through modules, roles, playbooks, and collections. Modules perform individual tasks, while playbooks combine those tasks into structured workflows. Roles help teams package and reuse automation, and collections extend Ansible with integrations for cloud platforms, databases, containers, network devices, operating systems, and other technologies. Because Ansible playbooks are designed to be readable and declarative, they can serve as shared documentation as well as executable automation. Teams can use them to standardize environments, reduce manual configuration errors, support continuous delivery, and improve operational consistency across development, testing, staging, and production systems. Ansible is commonly used alongside tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, CI/CD platforms, cloud services, and version-control systems. It is particularly useful for organizations that need a straightforward way to automate infrastructure and application operations without introducing complex agent management or specialized programming requirements.
